Nathan Sykes of The Wanted will undergo throat surgery on Wednesday, the band announced in a statement.

While the singer’s exact ailment wasn’t revealed, it’s known that the operation will cause him to miss some of the band’s upcoming appearances.

“We can confirm that The Wanted‘s Nathan Sykes will undergo specialist throat surgery on Thursday 18th April in Los Angeles and as such will be taking unforeseen hiatus form The Wanted,” say reps for the group.

The statement adds, “

The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible.

The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.”

On Facebook on Wednesday, Sykes’ band mates wrote, “Our lil Nath has to go in for an operation on his throat, on his birthday to make him better. So please join us in wishing our brother and our friend well. Get well soon Nath, we love ya!”

The announcement follows vague messages from Sykes on Twitter, where he wrote “Gutted …,” and then, hours later, “Can’t sleep. So much on my mind.”

Shortly afterward when a friend noted on Twitter that Sykes was “rushing in to have surgery on his vocal chords,” the boy bander responded, “Gonna try and stay positive as much as I can :)”

The Wanted begins a world tour in June.

Gossip Cop wishes Sykes a speedy recovery.

The Wanted are coming to TV.

E! has announced that the boy band will star in an upcoming docuseries tentatively titled “The Wanted Life.”

Ryan Seacrest is among the producers.

The show will follow the five singers — Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuinness, Tom Parker, and Nathan Sykes — as they live together in the Hollywood Hills and go about recording their third album and preparing to tour.

It’s set to premiere in June.

“The rock star lifestyle is something that everyone has fantasized about and The Wanted are giving viewers total access into their world as they live out this dream,” said E! president Suzanne Kolb in a statement.

She continued, “This series is a perfect blend of music, bromance and superstardom chronicling the lives of one of music’s biggest groups as they continue to make their mark on the global stage.”

Seacrest said, “America has a long history of falling for British bad boy musicians, so it’s no surprise that The Wanted are already beloved by legions of fans far and wide.”

He added, “This talented and outspoken English-Irish band are setting their own course to fame and this journey is the foundation of the series. It’s a road that’s bound to include irresistible pop tracks along with plenty of humor, antics and drama behind-the-scenes, which I believe will further ignite fascination and even obsession with these guys.”
