David Letterman is weighing in on the “Tonight Show” upheaval in trademark fashion.

On Wednesday’s “Late Show,” the host talks about NBC’s just-confirmed plans to replace Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon, a move he calls “crazy.”

“He’s being replaced by a younger late night talk show host –- what could possibly go wrong?” deadpans Letterman. ”Honestly. They had pretty good luck with this in the past.”

Letterman also gives “The Top 10 Things We’ll Miss About Jay Leno.”

It’s official: Jimmy Fallon will take over “The Tonight Show” from Jay Leno.

The transition is set for 2014.

On Wednesday, NBC finally confirmed the poorly kept secret.

As part of the switch, “The Tonight Show” will return to New York after four decades in Los Angeles.

Fallon declared, “I’m really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow.”

“Congratulations Jimmy,” Leno said in a statement. “I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy. If you need me, I’ll be at the garage.”

Jimmy Fallon to Replace Jay Leno, Move Tonight Show to New York: Report

Truth rating: 9

Jimmy Fallon is set to replace Jay Leno as host of “The Tonight Show,” according to multiple reports.

According to The New York Times, no deal is in place, but a transition is expected to occur by fall 2014 at the latest.

The show would reportedly return to New York after more than four decades in Los Angeles.

NBC has declined to comment, except to confirm that Fallon would be getting a new studio at Rockefeller Center.

Leno’s current contract ends in 2014.

“The Tonight Show” has experienced messy, very public battles for the hosting spot in the past.

Leno famously beat out David Letterman for the job in the early 1990s, and then took the desk back from Conan O’Brien in 2010 after being replaced for less than a year.

Adding to the late-night drama this time around is Jimmy Kimmel’s recent switch to an earlier time slot at ABC, speculation that Letterman will retire from CBS when his own contract expires next year, and buzz about who will take over “Late Night” from Fallon if he indeed moves up to “Tonight.”

Gossip Cop will have updates.

Stay tuned.
