A new rumor spreading online claims Sarah Gadon is replacing Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after Woodley’s scenes were dropped from the production earlier this week.

This is NOT true.

As Gossip Cop reported, the Watson character will not appear at all in the sequel to the 2012 hit starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

It’s expected that Watson will be introduced in the third installment in the Spider-Man franchise.

Gadon has indeed joined Spider-Man 2 — but she’ll appear only briefly, and not as a main character, a studio source tells Gossip Cop.

Our insider says reports that have her replacing Woodley as Watson are “not true at all.”

Shailene Woodley has been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The actress’ character Mary Jane Watson — a love interest for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) — was moved to the franchise’s third movie so that the sequel currently in production can focus on Parker’s relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

“I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship,” said director Marc Webb in a statement. “Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”

The third movie is scheduled for a 2016 release — and it’s not clear whether Woodley will return for the Watson role.
