Scarlett Johansson Suing Over French Book That Uses Her Name

Truth rating: 10

3:06 pm, June 8th, 2013

(GettyImages.com)

Scarlett Johansson is suing the French publisher of a novel over the unauthorized use of her name.

The book, called “The First Thing We Look At,” features a female character who shows up needing the help of a mechanic who mistakenly believes she’s “Scarlett Johansson.”

It turns out the woman simply bears a resemblance to the famous actress.

The real Johansson is now filing a lawsuit against publisher JC Lattes for “breach and fraudulent use of personal rights.”

She’s seeking compensation and a ban on “future transfer of rights and adaptations of the book.”

The novel’s author, Gregoire Delacourt, told Le Figaro he was “stunned” by the litigation.

He’s quoted as saying, “This corresponds with the fantasies of our times. All these famous people live with us… I wrote a book of fiction. My character is not Scarlett Johansson, [she’s named] Jeanine Foucaprez!”
