Kate Middleton and Prince William’s newborn son made his first public appearance on Tuesday.

The potential future King of England emerged from the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London a little more than 24 hours after his birth.

An enormous crowd of well wishers and media had gathered after waiting for days for Middleton’s labor and eventual delivery.

Earlier on Tuesday, the couple thanked St. Mary’s for the “tremendous care” they’d received.

Kate and William Thank Hospital For “Tremendous Care” In New Statement

Kate Middleton and Prince William released a new statement on Tuesday morning, thanking the staff at the hospital where they welcomed their first child — a son — the day before.

The couple stayed overnight at in the Lindo wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

On Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said, “We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received. We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone — staff, patients and visitors — for their understanding during this time.”

The new mom and the royal baby could depart the facility late Tuesday, although there are reports that they could stay an additional night.

It’s not known whether the couple will receive visitors before their departure.

President and Michelle Obama Congratulate William and Kate on Royal Baby Boy Birth

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama congratulated Prince William and Kate Middleton on the royal birth of their baby boy on Monday.

In an official statement issued by the White House, the President said, “Michelle and I are so pleased to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the joyous occasion of the birth of their first child.”

He continued, “We wish them all the happiness and blessings parenthood brings. The child enters the world at a time of promise and opportunity for our two nations. Given the special relationship between us, the American people are pleased to join with the people of the United Kingdom as they celebrate the birth of the young prince.”

Of course, the Obamas were only some of the well-known figures to offer their congratulations on the big birth.
