Elysium Tops Weekend Box Office Over We’re The Millers and Planes

Elysium won the weekend box office, debuting ahead of two other new releases.
The Matt Damon sci-fi movie snagged the #1 spot with $30.5 million
Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis’ raunchy comedy We’re The Millers finished in second with $26.6 million.
And the animated Planes nabbed third with $22.5 million.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, the mythological adventure sequel, and the Denzel Washington–Mark Wahlberg shoot-em-up film 2 Guns came in fourth and fifth places with $14.6 million and $11.1 million, respectively.
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Smurfs 2 ($9.5 million), The Wolverine ($8 million), The Conjuring ($6.7 million), Despicable Me 2 ($5.7 million), and Grown Ups 2 ($3.7 million).
