Miss USA 2013 takes place on Sunday (see the contestants here!), but four previous winners are making headlines with a striking new PETA anti-fur campaign ad.

Susie Castillo (2003), Shandi Finnessey (2004), Shanna Moakler (1995), and Alyssa Campanella (2011) bare it all in the spot to demonstrate their opposition to killing in the name of fashion.

The print ad declares: “Feel Beautiful in Your Own Skin, and Let Animals Keep Theirs.”

In the accompanying not-safe-for-work video, the women talk about their experiences being offered fur and other animal products on the pageant circuit and their horror at different forms of animal cruelty.

PETA Slams Kim Kardashian Over Fur: “Greedy,” “Blatantly Cruel” & Bad Example

Truth rating: 10

Kim Kardashian covered her baby bump in fur while strolling Paris on Monday, and it’s not sitting well with PETA.

The animal rights advocacy group is once again blasting the reality TV star — who was infamously “flour bombed” by an activist last year — for her fashion choices.

In a statement to Gossip Cop, PETA says Kardashian and boyfriend Kanye West will serve as “poor examples” to their unborn child, suggesting they’re on the track to being “greedy, self-absorbed parents” whose “blatantly cruel” use of animal products could revolt their children.

Here’s the full statement:

“Children naturally identify and empathize with animals — so even though Kim and Kanye will undoubtedly serve as poor examples when it comes to kindness toward animals, perhaps their child will take after Aunt Khloe and choose kindness by rejecting fur.”

“Children who come from greedy, self-absorbed parents could follow their lead or break away and be alienated from and disgusted by them. Kim is a commodity: She is paid to wear things like fur or a particular makeup and to shake hands with dictators — so she is not a good example for a child or anyone else of how to show a social conscience.  Thankfully, this child will be growing up in a time when most people know how blatantly cruel it is to buy a coat made from someone else’s skin — so there is hope.”

What do you think of PETA’s latest comments on Kardashian and West?

Joaquin Phoenix ‘Drowning’ PETA Ad Banned From Oscars Broadcast (VIDEO)

VIDEO

Joaquin Phoenix stars in a new PETA ad in which the actor simulates drowning to convey the pain and suffering fish endure when they’re hauled out of the water.

The spot is certainly attention-grabbing — but one place you won’t be seeing it is during next Sunday’s Academy Awards.

PETA claims ABC has banned the startling commercial from running during the Oscars telecast, during which Phoenix will be up for Best Actor honors.

The animal-rights advocacy ad was reportedly deemed to be too “political” and “controversial” for the show, although E! says it will run during the post-show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
