Ellen DeGeneres will host the Oscars in 2014.

The announcement was made on Friday.

DeGeneres previously hosted the Academy Awards in 2007.

“I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say — the third time’s the charm,” said DeGeneres in a statement.

Last year’s ceremony was hosted by Seth MacFarlane, who earned mixed reviews.

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said, “We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars.”

“There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are,” continued Zadan and Meron.

The Academy Awards will be presented at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2, 2014.

He praised Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron before joking, “My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix.”

With MacFarlane dropping out of contention, speculation about his replacement is set to swirl.

Justin Timberlake to Host Oscars?

Truth rating: 1

Is Justin Timberlake going to host the Oscars?

The National Enquirer claims to have a scoop about the actor-singer currently leading the pack for the Academy Awards hosting gig next year.

“The Oscar honchos are in discussions with Mr. SexyBack already,” a so-called “inside source” tells the magazine.

According to the Enquirer insider, “Getting Justin to host would now be a huge coup for the Oscars. He’d been considered before, but they always thought he was too young and not seasoned enough.”

“Now, he’s the frontrunner for the job — after showing he knows how to sing, dance, host, and improvise on the spot,” explains the tabloid tattler, apparently in reference to Timberlake’s recent hosting of “Saturday Night Live.”

(Of course, Timberlake had already hosted “SNL” four times before this season, but why should the Enquirer let that detail get in the way of a good rumor?)

So is the performer really the current “frontrunner” for the 2014 Oscars?

A source close to Timberlake tells Gossip Cop the speculation is “premature and ridiculous,” especially because they haven’t even announced the producers of next year’s ceremony yet.

In other words: While the multi-talented Timberlake’s name could certainly come up in future conversations about the Oscars — there’s nothing real behind the current buzz.
