Michael J. Fox turned to alcohol after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and felt ”helpless.”

In a Wednesday appearance on Howard Stern’s show, the actor talked about how he coped with his life-altering health condition.

“My first reaction to it was to start drinking heavily… I used to drink to party, but then I was drinking alone to [self-medicate],” explained Fox, who then went into therapy.

The star also touched upon sex, “Family Ties,” and what it’s like to act out the symptoms of Parkinson’s on his new sitcom.

Michael J. Fox makes his big return to primetime television this fall with a new NBC sitcom.

A first look at “The Michael J. Fox Show” features the actor, who has Parkinson’s disease in real life, as news anchor Mike Henry, who is returning to work while coping with the same affliction.

Fox says his TV comeback was motivated by a love for the work and a desire to “deal with things through humor.”

He’s joined in the self-referential and self-deprecating series by Betsy Brandt, Wendell Pierce and Anne Heche.

“The Michael J. Fox Show” premieres September 26.
