CLAIM: Katie Couric Wants Matt Lauer to Walk Her Down the Aisle at Wedding

“Matt Lauer and Katie Couric are more than just casual colleagues — Star has learned that the former Today show hosts are so tight that Katie wants Matt to walk her down the aisle,” reports the magazine.

“Most people don’t realize how close Matt and Katie still are,” a “friend” tells Star. “They consider each other family, and that didn’t change when they stopped working together.”

The tab’s source goes on to claim that Lauer “was one of the first people Katie called” when fiancé John Molner proposed in September.

“Having Matt by her side will make Katie’s special day even better,” the supposed pal tells the magazine.

“But, ever the journalist at heart,” reports Star, “Matt is hoping to get a professional boost from Katie’s wedding as well and is pushing her to give Today some kind exclusive on her nuptials.”

The tabloid adds, “Devoted to her BFF, Katie may very well agree.”

Not so fast.

While Lauer and Couric do remain on good terms, the bride-to-be has NOT asked him to walk her down the aisle.

A source close to Couric laughed when Gossip Cop inquired, and told us ”Katie hasn’t even made wedding plans yet.”

Whoops.

Today Anchors Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie Victims of Fake “Cheating Scandal”

Star published this week a sensational — and false — story about Matt Lauer and his “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, claiming the colleagues are in the midst of a “cheating scandal.”

According the tab, the pair “got dangerously close after they first met five years ago, then dialed their relationship back,” but “now eyebrows are being raised behind the scenes as their connection heats up again.”

“Industry insiders have been buzzing about Matt and Savannah again,” a “source” tells Star.

The mag’s supposed tipster explains, “[Lauer’s wife] Annette was devastated when she learned about her husband’s interest in Savannah all those years ago; now she has new worries as whispers grow about them getting flirty again.”

That’s right — Star is rehashing and regurgitating years-old bogus rumors in a sad attempt to make current drama where there is none.

“Sparks really flew between Matt and Savannah when they first met,” claims the outlet’s so-called “source,” who alleges that the pair “developed a real, intimate chemistry” but “cooled things off” after Guthie took over Ann Curry’s job last year.

Star goes on to say that “insiders have been hinting that the co-anchors’ attraction has recently reignited — and that can spell more turmoil for Annette.”

“For whatever reason, Annette just can’t bring herself to leave Matt,” speculates Star’s snitch. “And that’s just fine with him, if he can avoid an embarrassing divorce and still have leeway to act like a playboy.”

Uh, maybe Annette “can’t bring herself to leave” her husband because there is nothing going on between Lauer and Guthrie.

There wasn’t anything going on five years ago, and there still isn’t now.

And, for the record, Guthrie just got engaged to longtime boyfriend Mike Feldman in May.

Regardless, a rep for the “Today” hosts tells Gossip Cop that Star’s story “is complete garbage and categorically untrue.”
