Man of Steel to Set June Opening Record

2:26 pm, June 16th, 2013

(DC)

Man of Steel just flew into the record books.

The Superman blockbuster, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, will earn an estimated $113 million for the weekend and $125.1 million for the four-day launch that began on Thursday, beating expectations and giving it the biggest June opening in history.

Official numbers are expected on Monday.

If it stands, Man of Steel’s $113.1 million weekend will replace 2010′s Toy Story 3 ($110.3 million) as the best June debut ever.

The opening should be the second-best of 2013 overall, behind another superhero flick — Iron Man 3 — which earned a staggering $173.5 million in its debut last month.

Gossip Cop will have an updated box office report later.
