With Christian Bale not expected to suit up, the major role is up for grabs.

A number of high-profile names are reportedly in the running, although it’s important to note no one has been confirmed to be in negotiations just yet.

Superman and Batman Movie Set For 2015

3:23 pm, July 20th, 2013

(Warner Bros.)

(Warner Bros.)

Batman will team up with Superman in a 2015 follow-up to Man of Steel, it was reported at Comic-Con on Saturday.

The movie will be directed by Zack Snyder and feature Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman, although Bruce Wayne/Batman has not been cast.

Christian Bale, who portrayed Gotham’s Caped Crusader in director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, is not expected to suit up again.

The Los Angeles Times was the first to report the news, which is expected to be confirmed by Warner Bros. shortly.

There are also tentative plans for a Flash movie in 2016, followed by a Justice League film in 2017.

While they’ve partnered in the comics and cartoons in past decades, Batman and Superman have never shared a major live-action film before.

DC Comics hopes the union of its biggest characters in a single movie will mirror the success Marvel had with The Avengers, an all-star grouping of superheroes that generated a staggering $1.5 billion at the box office last year.
