Asked about Gomez in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the “Royals” singer said, “I love pop music on a sonic level. But I’m a feminist and the theme of her song [‘Come & Get It’] is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”

Gomez hit back at Lorde on Hot 99.5′s “The Kane Show,” sharing, “I appreciate everybody’s opinion, especially because I’ve covered [Lorde’s] music lots of times. I think she is super talented and I think it’s awesome.”

The Spring Breakers actress added, “But… in my opinion it’s not feminism if you’re tearing down another artist.”

Gomez continued, “You know, she’s young, she’s got so much talent… so I don’t take it to heart.”

Lorde has taken to her Tumblr to clarify comments she made about Taylor Swift.

The New Zealand-born 16-year-old behind the hit “Royals” was quoted in a recent interview as saying Swift is “so flawless” to the point of representing a kind of beauty that’s “so unattainable.”

Lorde went on, “I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls. ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’ That’s f*cking bullsh*t.”

Many interpreted the remark to be a big diss — and a serious no-no from an up-and-coming singer — but the performer now says she simply didn’t express herself as clearly as she would’ve liked.

In her blog post, Lorde writes:

i think i cocked that up a bit and what i said wasn’t put in context also. what i meant was: there’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and i wish my favourite stars didn’t look perfect because i think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection. ts was the first person i thought of, which i regret. she happens to be good looking, but i think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way. taylor swift has a very unique vision, which i admire. i think somewhere along the line also there was a misquote where people got the impression i thought writing about love was shameful. i don’t! i just haven’t found a way of doing it which is powerful and innovative, which is why i don’t.

ps. i am very very new to this whole thing. i will probably never be the kind of role model for my fans that ts is for hers. i admire her very much for this reason. basically, this is an apology for not thinking too hard before i speak. peace.

What do you think of Lorde’s original comments, and her explanation?

Miley Cyrus reached out to 16-year-old singer Lorde after some of Cyrus’ avid fans bashed the teen for overtaking the “We Can’t Stop” performer on iTunes.

Lorde tweeted on Thursday, “wo #1 on US itunes. even if it lasts an hour i feel HAPPY. downside is all these miley fans telling me they’re gonna stab my rotting corpse.”

After Cyrus got word of what was going on, she wrote to the singer, “@lordemusic why r people so mean??? Ps your music is awesome.”

Hopefully, that puts an end to the cyber bullying.
