Leah Remini is getting BLASTED by the Church of Scientology for filing a missing person report on behalf of Shelly Miscavige, the since-located wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.

Early Friday, the Church issued a scathing statement to Gossip Cop about the situation, blaming Remini for sending police on a wild goose chase based on “unfounded” allegations.

“This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day,” said the Scientology rep.

The statement continued, “Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet.”

“Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas,” concluded the statement.

Last month, Remini left Scientology after decades of membership, later explaining, “No one is going to tell me how I need to think.”

Leah Remini has reportedly filed a missing person report for the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.

A Los Angeles Police Department source confirms to Gossip Cop that an investigation has been launched to locate Shelly Miscavige, who has not been seen publicly in several years, despite the Church of Scientology denying that she’s actually missing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a separate source close to Remini has confirmed that the actress is the one who filed the report.

Last month, Remini left Scientology after decades of membership, later explaining, “No one is going to tell me how I need to think.”

Multiple reports following the actress’ departure from the secretive religion indicated that Remini was concerned about Shelly Miscavige’s unknown whereabouts.

Gossip Cop will have updates.

Leah Remini is opening up about her decision to leave the Church of Scientology.

“We stand united, my family and I, and I think that says a lot about who we are, and what we’re about,” the actress told People at the DesignCare even in Malibu over the weekend.

She explained, “I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct.”

“That for me, that’s what I’m about,” said the “King of Queens” star. “It wouldn’t matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to.”

Remini added, “It doesn’t matter, it could be anything. I thought about the family being broken up for some other cause, and I’m not about to shut up.”
