Identity Thief Steals Big Box Office Win

Identity Thief is set to win the weekend box office, with the Jason BatemanMelissa McCarthy comedy on pace for an estimated $34 million windfall, even as a blizzard batters the East Coast.

Zombie romance Warm Bodies ($9 million) should finish in second place, just ahead of the new thriller Side Effects, starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law and Channing Tatum ($8 million).

Oscar contender Silver Linings Playbook is expected to be in the #4 slot with about $6 million.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is set to place fifth at $4.8 million, beating Jessica Chastain’s one-two punch of Mama ($4 million) and Zero Dark Thirty ($3.5 million).

Django Unchained and Argo will likely battle for #8 — both movies are on track for approximately $2 million.

The Sylvester Stallone action flick Bullet To The Head should round out the chart with a $1.5 million haul.

Warm Bodies Wins Super Bowl Weekend Box Office

Warm Bodies, the zombie romantic comedy starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer, topped the box office on Super Bowl Weekend with $20 million in ticket sales.

Last week’s winner Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters came in second with $9.2 million.

Nabbing third with $8.1 million was Silver Linings Playbook.

Fourth and fifth places went to the horror flick Mama and Zero Dark Thirty with $6.7 million and $5.3 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Sylvester Stallone’s Bullet to the Head ($4.5 million), the Jason StathamJennifer Lopez movie Parker ($3.2 million), Django Unchained ($3 million), Les Miserables ($2.4 million), and Lincoln ($2.41 million).

Hansel & Gretel Tops Weekend Box Office

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is on pace to top a slow weekend at the box office, with the updated Brothers Grimm fairy tale-turned-action movie debuting to approximately $18 million.

Horror flick Mama should take second place with $13 million or so.

Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty are in a tight race for the #3 spot, with both movies tracking toward about $9 million.

The new Jason StathamJennifer Lopez movie Parker will be fifth, opening to $7 million.

It looks like Django Unchained ($4.8 million) should hit #6, ahead of a pack of movies all projected to finish around $4 million — new comedy release Movie 43, and dramatic holdovers Les Miserables, Gangster Squad and Broken City.
