Hayden Panettiere looked lovely in a Tom Ford dress at the Golden Globes – but controversy erupted when it was revealed how she got it.

When the actress was asked during a red carpet interview to say who she was wearing, Panettiere answered, “Tom Ford. It’s the first time I’ve ever worn him, because I’ve been begging.”

She enthused, “I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it… I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him.”

The problem is that Ford himself only officially dressed Naomi Watts for the awards.

Panettiere actually purchased an off-the-rack Ford gown from a retailer, a distinction that seems to matter a great deal among fashionistas and celebrity watchers.

The faux pas led to a mini-scandal, with observers believing that Panettiere had broken an unwritten rule of celebrity red carpet etiquette.

But Panettiere looked good in the gown, and Ford himself took notice, squashing any kind of lingering controversy with flowers.

“Such an honor to wear one of this man’s masterpieces! Thank you for my beautiful flowers!” tweeted Panettiere on Tuesday, accompanied by a photo of the bouquet from Ford (see below).

Ford’s note reads: “Dear Hayden, You Looked Beautiful Last Night. Thank You For Your Kind Words. Much Love, Tom.”

Gabourey Sidibe knows how to silence her haters.

The “American Horror Story” actress walked the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globes, leading a number of observers on Twitter and elsewhere to make mean remarks about her appearance.

But Sidibe had an answer for the snark.

To people making mean comments about my GG pics, I mos def cried about it on that private jet on my way to my dream job last night. #JK” she tweeted.

Well done.

By the way, Sidibe wore a custom dress from Daniel Musto with Michael Costello and jewelry by Neil Lane.

Tina Fey Burns Taylor Swift For “Special Place In Hell” Comment at Golden Globes

Truth rating: 10

Tina Fey appeared to burn Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes on Sunday, not-so-subtly referencing their mini feud after last year’s awards.

For context: Fey and Amy Poehler lightly mocked Swift’s romantic life at the 2013 Globes, warning her to “stay away” from Michael J. Fox’s son.

In a subsequent interview, Swift struck back.

The singer remarked, “You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people, because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’”

That “hell” comment stuck with Fey and Poehler.

On Sunday, Poehler won a Golden Globe for her work on “Parks and Recreation,” after which Fey offered some rather pointed congratulations.

Fey told Poehler (and the audience), “I love you, and there’s a special place in hell for you!”

Swift’s reaction to the dig was not on camera.
