Dakota Johnson To Star as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey

Dakota Johnson has landed the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features formally announced the news on Monday, shortly before confirming Charlie Hunnam will play the male lead, Christian Grey.

The highly-anticipated film will be based on E L James’ best-selling erotic novel.

“I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” the author tweeted.

Johnson, who previously starred in The Social Network and on the FOX series “Ben and Kate,” is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.

The casting follows months of wrong rumors and speculation about who would land the coveted role.

The movie, to be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is set to be released on August 1, 2014.

Charlie Hunnam Cast as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey Movie

Charlie Hunnam will play Christian Grey in the highly-anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features confirmed the casting shortly after formally announcing Dakota Johnson will play the female lead, Anastasia Steele.

“The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” tweeted Fifty Shades author E L James.

Hunnam is best known for starring on the FX series, “Sons of Anarchy,” and most recently appeared in the movie Pacific Rim.

Casting the film adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel has been the subject of much speculation — and wrong rumors — for well over a year.

The movie, to be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is set to be released on August 1, 2014.

Sam Taylor-Johnson to Direct Fifty Shades of Grey Movie

Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct Fifty Shades of Grey.

The movie, based on the EL James bestseller about the sexual relationship between billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele, is one of the most hotly anticipated adaptations in Hollywood given the book’s runaway success and racy subject matter.

Taylor-Johnson, who’s married to Kick-Ass actor Aaron Johnson, made her directorial debut with Nowhere Boy in 2009.

“Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life,” said Fifty Shades producer Michael De Luca on Wednesday. “EL James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed, and Sam is a natural fit.”

With a director on board, casting announcements should be expected shortly.
