Ender’s Game Blasts Box Office Foes

Ender’s Game is expected to top the weekend box office, according to early estimates.

The sci-fi action adventure about a boy military genius is on pace for approximately $28 million, which would be enough to beat last week’s champ, Bad Grandpa, currently tracking toward about $19 million.

Two new releases, the geriatric bromance comedy Last Vegas and the animated turkey tale Free Birds, are battling for third place with roughly $16 million apiece.

Gravity should orbit the #5 spot with an estimated $13 million, followed by Captain Phillips in sixth place at $8 million or so.

The Top 10 will likely be rounded out with 12 Years a Slave, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, The Counselor, and Carrie.

New Ender’s Game Trailer: Watch Harrison Ford Keep Secrets

Ender’s Game debuted a new trailer on Tuesday, displaying a darker side to the adaptation of the classic sci-fi book series.

The movie, about about a boy trained as humanity’s last hope in a war against aliens, stars Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin, and features a supporting cast that includes Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin.

The new trailer hints that Ender’s role may be different than he thinks.

Ender’s Game opens in theaters on November 1.
