Ashton Kutcher pleads for privacy and discusses the alleged public perception that he’s “stupid” in a new interview with Elle.

The “Two and a Half Men” star declines to talk about his relationship with Mila Kunis, telling the magazine, “You know, I’ve learned the hard way how valuable privacy is.”

“And I’ve learned that there are a lot of things in your life that really benefit from being private. And relationships are one of them,” says Kutcher. ”And I am going to do everything in my power to have this relationship be private.”

Refusing to even share how he and Kunis went from long-ago co-stars to present-day lovers, the “That ’70s Show” star says, “People will fill in the blanks however they want.”

Kutcher was notoriously open during his marriage to Demi Moore, often joining her in flaunting their relationship on social media.

Now Kutcher won’t even discuss his current relationship with Moore’s three daughters, whom he was once extremely close to, reiterating, “There are some things that are better left private.”

Of course, privacy for a celebrity often seems like an elusive goal, and along with it, the actor admits there’s difficulty in trusting people, too.

“When you become well known, you start to have suspicions about people’s intentions that you’re becoming close with,” says Kutcher. “Because I think there’s been an artificial value that’s been put on fame in the world—people don’t want to do something. They just want to be famous.”

He continues, ”And so I think you develop a natural suspicion of that. And, you know, I have a little bit of naïveté about trusting people — with the notion that if you share and if you give to people, they’ll respect your privacy in turn. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.”

Still, many people’s perception of Kutcher is based on some of the comedies he’s starred in, where — unlike in his new movie jOBS — he wasn’t exactly playing the smartest characters.

“People fill in the blanks really fast. They go, ‘Oh my God, he’s on a show and [plays] stupid, so he must be stupid,’” the movie star tells Elle. “I can’t control that, nor do I try to, nor do I want to.”

In actuality, his “geek” role on “Men” is more in line with his true persona, says Kutcher, who admits “there was an impression that I was this sort of larger-than-life, with-a-posse kind of guy,” and that “there was a point in time where I was doing movies to be able to afford to live in a certain way.”

The latter, however, hasn’t entirely changed.

Explains Kutcher, “You know, I didn’t really go the starving-artist route. I kind of went and did massive, commercial things. [Two and a Half Men] is a very commercial show. But it’s very fun to do.”

“I’m surrounded by an amazing group of people,” he says. ”And I can be home for dinner.”

Nicki Minaj: I’m Combative Because “I Went Through A Lot Of Bullying” As A Child

Nicki Minaj goes au natural for the April issue of Elle, appearing on the mag’s cover without her signature heavy makeup, fake eyelashes and colored wig.

The “Super Bass” singer says it was difficult to go bare because she feels her wacky look “has become a part of me,” explaining, “To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes — you know, nothing – I felt naked. It was scary!”

“So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes,” adds Minaj.

The “American Idol” judge also opens up to the mag about being picked on as a child, revealing, “I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell.”

“We had come to America from a different country [Trinidad]. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough,” she shares.

Minaj offers, “So I’ve always put up this wall — it was a self-defense mechanism growing up — because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.”

Perhaps that’s one explanation of why the rapper’s initial tiff with fellow “Idol” judge Mariah Carey elevated so quickly into a full-on feud.

The issue hits newsstands on March 26.
