Diddy announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he was joining the cast of “Downton Abbey,” and while some outlets mistakenly believed his news, in reality it was all a set-up for a new “Funny or Die” video starring the mogul.

In the “Funny or Die” bit, titled “Downton Diddy,” the musician says it was reported last week that the show had just cast its first black character, but notes he had “already broke down that barrier” — and has “the scenes to prove it.”

He then shows a highly edited video of the BBC period drama with his character “Lord Wolcott” — the new owner of “Downtown Abbey,” as he repeatedly calls it — spliced into various scenes.

Is Diddy joining the cast of the BBC period drama “Downton Abbey”?

On Wednesday, the mogul tweeted, “I have to admit that Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows- and thats why Im so excited today @DowntonAbbey”.

He later followed that message by writing on Twitter, “MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i’ll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!”

A number of news outlets and blogs fell for it, but it’s “not true,” a spokesperson for the show tells Gossip Cop, reiterating, “He is not joining the cast of ‘Downton Abbey.’”

It’s unclear why Diddy — who also changed his Twitter background to the logo of “Downton Abbey” — claimed he’ll be on the show.

Gossip Cop will get to the bottom of this.
