Bachelorette Recap: Desiree Breaks Down Over James Bombshell, Three Sent Home

(ABC)

On Monday’s “The Bachelorette,” the drama among the men reached a boiling point that left Desiree Hartsock in tears and questioning the entire competition.

The issue stemmed from some of the guys overhearing James saying he hoped to make it to the Top Four so he would have a chance at being the next “Bachelor.”

Drew, Kasey, and several of the other guys were insistent Hartsock find out that the 27-year-old advertising executive wasn’t there for the right reasons, but first Drew got to go on a 1-on-1 date in gorgeous Barcelona.

The digital marketing analyst kicked things off by telling the bachelorette he wanted to kiss her, and she happily obliged as they set out to explore the Spanish city.

He later took Hartsock by surprise by interrupting their dinner to take her into an alleyway… to make out…. in front of the cameras.

Unsurprisingly, Drew received the date rose — but then dropped the bombshell about James.

“Wow,” said a stunned Hartsock as she grappled with the news.

The next day, Drew revealed to the guys that he fulfilled their mission, and James, Brooks, Chris, Kasey, Michael G., and Juan Pablo set out for their group date.

The friendliness of their soccer game was left behind during the party portion of the date, where Kasey — accompanied by Chris and Michael — confronted James about his comments.

James at first denied ever uttering the statement about becoming the next “Bachelor,” then claimed it was a joke, and the situation quickly got heated with f-bombs being thrown left and right.

Kasey then went to Hartsock , and gave her additional details about James, including his comments about not needing to worry about a job or money after the “Bachelorette.”

The news made Hartsock decide to forgo the group date rose, send the guys home, and confront James about everything she’s heard.

Hartsock told James she trusted the guys and believed what they told her, but he tried to minimize the damage by placing the blame on eliminated contestant Mikey, saying he made the comments.

“I think they’re threatened by me,” James said of his competitors “ganging up” on him, going on to add, “Desiree, I have feelings for you. Period.”

As James got emotional — tears in his eyes and all — he swore he wanted to be there with her, and Hartsock soon started crying, too, feeling torn between him and the rest of the men, before ultimately deciding to take the night to process her feelings.

The guys, in turn, were shocked when James arrived back at their hotel, and simply uttered, “Gentleman, goodnight.”

The next day, Zak W. went into his 1-on-1 date worried that the drama of the night before would affect his time with Hartsock, but she was ready to start fresh.

An art class lightened the mood considerably, especially when the drilling fluid engineer stripped to his underwear to pose as the model.

Things later took a romantic turn during dinner, as the two bonded over their adventurous spirits, and soon enough, Hartsock was giving Zak the date rose.

“At this point if my life, you kind of mean everything to me,” he told her afterward.

Back at the hotel, James again tried to defend his comments, talking in circles about why was justified to be thinking about a Hartsock-less future as he competed for her affections.

“How do you not see that those things are detrimental to a relationship with a person we all care about?” Drew asked him.

The next morning, James had to face Hartsock again, with him insisting he was only there “to fall in love” with her.

The bridal stylist, though entering the conversation ready to send him home, started doubting herself as she found his comments “sincere,” and ended up in tears again as they patched things up.

The guys weren’t so forgiving, as James dug himself into an even deeper hole as he defended his perspective for the umpteenth time before storming out.

With no cocktail party for the second week in a row, the rose ceremony was extra tense.

Hartsock called the night’s decisions the “hardest” she’s had to make, and vowed to make the “best” decisions for herself and the guys.

In the end, she gave roses to everyone but Kasey, Juan Pablo and… James.

“I don’t get how this came down this way,” he said during his exit, complaining he got “bullied right out the door.”

Now just five guys remain.

Do you agree with Hartsock’s reaction to all the drama?

Bachelorette Contestant Quits Competition, Desiree Makes More Cuts in Germany

9:57 pm, June 24th, 2013

RECAP

(ABC)

Desiree Hartsock’s search for love continued in Germany on Monday’s “Bachelorette” — but one contestant suddenly decided to drop out of the running.

Bryden, the 26-year-old Iraq war veteran, surprised the bridal stylist by revealing he wasn’t feeling a connection and didn’t want to remain in the competition.

And he decided to interrupt her 1-on-1 date to tell her, even using the dreaded “friend” term.

“It’s just a bummer if you know you knew this before,” Desiree told him after he revealed he wanted to leave immediately.

At least Hartsock still had more than 10 guys left to choose from, and the brunette beauty still had the rest of the 1-on-1 date, a group date, and (the always awkward) 2-on-1 date.

Hartsock had her 1-on-1 with mortgage broker Chris, with the pair touring the city of Munich before enjoying a private concert from singer Matt White.

The duo cracked themselves up trying to speak German as they navigated the foreign sites, but the tone changed after Bryden’s bombshell.

“Why right now?” Hartsock wondered aloud, calling Bryden’s timing “annoying.”

Chris assured Hartsock he was there “for the long haul,” and the two cheered to “moving forward and having good times.”

She was later moved to tears when Chris read a poem he wrote her, and told him “I couldn’t have asked for a better date with you, to bring me back to what I’m here for and lift my spirits.”

Needless to say, he got the rose.

On the group date, the guys were tasked with sledding down Germany’s highest peak, which actually proved quite scary, but laughs abounded.

After, at an igloo made into a cozy lounge, Hartsock reminded the guys she’s putting her “heart on the line,” and asked them not to waste her time if they feel the same as Bryden.

The competition for the date rose quickly heated up, and Brooks, Mikey T., James and Zak impressed her during their private time, with Brooks eventually scoring immunity.

The 2-on-1 pairing was guaranteed to be dramatic from the get-go, with enemies Michael G., the federal prosecutor, and Ben, the single dad entrepreneur, forced to compete for Hartsock’s affections.

“This is a nightmare,” Michael said, vowing to convince Hartsock that the “repulsive” Ben was a “fraud” and to “murder” him.

Hartsock admitted (to the camera) she wanted to see if the two men could overcome their issues, but the tension never seemed to calm.

Michael knew just how to push Ben’s buttons, though he often remained silent, and a clearly uncomfortable Hartsock realized the difficult spot she placed herself in.

Things only got worse when Michael called Ben out on not getting along with their fellow contestants, followed by more accusations about his parenting and faith, prompting Ben to excuse himself, and causing Hartsock to chide Michael for his actions.

Michael feared his plan irreversibly backfired as Hartsock went to comfort Ben, but again pleaded his case during some alone time.

Amazingly, it worked — and Hartsock gave the rose to Michael, saying she saw a “future” with him, thereby eliminating Ben from the competition.

Hartsock later shocked the remaining guys by nixing the usual cocktail party, feeling she had enough time with them already to feel confident with her rose ceremony decisions.

Ultimately, Hartsock saved everyone at the rose ceremony — except for Mikey T.

The bachelorette opted to send the plumbing contractor home, despite their bonding during the group date, and the men’s wish for James to get the boot.

“I’m definitely surprised,” lamented Mikey. ”I don’t understand why she doesn’t want to get to know me more.”

Now just eight guys are left in the competition.

What do you think of this week’s surprise exit and eliminations?

The Bachelorette Recap: Men Compete For “Mr. America” Title, 2 Suitors Get Booted

10:05 pm, June 17th, 2013

RECAP

(ABC)

Desire Hartsocks “Bachelorette” suitors went competed in a “Mr. America” competition on Monday’s episode, and the pageant was every bit as cheesy and wonderful as one could imagine.

The 11 guys were judged on their interview, talent and (of course) the swimsuit competition, in front of a live audience in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

As Mikey T. put it, “We’re all competitors, so we all want this.”

So, who nabbed the title?

Casey was crowned “The Bachelorette’s Mr. America,” making Mikey T. and Zak W. feel they were “robbed.”

After the contest, the group had a pool party, and Hartsock got to spend some alone time with Chris, who read her a poem in the water. Naturally.

However, the rose went to Zak W.

Before the group date, Hartsock had a one-on-one date with single dad Brad, which included a walk on the beach and some very strained conversation over dinner.

Hartsock did not give Brad a rose because she felt that “something was missing” in their interactions.

She also had a one-on-one date with James, in which the two toured the Hurricane Sandy damage in the Jersey Shore.

After Hartsock and James met an older couple named Jan and Manny who spent their wedding anniversary in a shelter due to the storm, the reality stars decided to give their romantic dinner date to the older duo.

The couple were beyond excited, especially because Manny had never been in a limo before.

During Hartsock and James’ date, he revealed he had cheated on his college girlfriend. Hartsock was disappointed, but grateful for his honestly. At the end of the evening, she gave him a rose.

Zack K. was not so lucky, getting eliminated at the rose ceremony.

What did you think of Monday’s episode?
