Magazine: Michael Douglas “Gay Shocker!”

Truth rating: 0

12:09 pm, March 20th, 2013

(National Enquirer)

The cover of the new National Enquirer claims to have a “Michael Douglas Gay Shocker!”

According to the tabloid, the Oscar winner has a “twisted secret he’s hiding” from Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Wow.

What is it?!

Well, it turns out the same publication that’s long fabricated stories about Douglas — including a bogus story claiming he and Zeta-Jones “split” — is going sensational yet again.

The Enquirer alleges that Douglas is “consumed with guilt over his gay half brother Eric, who was brutalized for years by their father Kirk and shunned by Michael because neither star could deal with his sexuality.”

In the wake of Eric’s 2004 drug overdose death, says the tabloid, guilt supposed “gnawed” at Douglas and “that’s what drove the macho actor to take the role of flamboyant gay showman Liberace in the highly touted HBO movie ‘Behind the Candelabra.’”

Huh?

“Michael is haunted by his brother’s death, always asking himself, ‘How could I have saved him?’” explains an Enquirer source. “That’s why he took the part of Liberace. He did it for Eric. It’s his way of making amends.”

No, it’s not.

Douglas took the Liberace part “because the film’s fantastic,” a source close to the actor tells Gossip Cop, adding that it has “nothing to do with Eric.”

Meanwhile, a rep for Douglas calls the Enquirer report “so pathetic.”

That’s exactly how we’d describe a tabloid’s bizarre decision to sensationalize a casting choice as a “gay shocker” and “twisted secret.”

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones Split, Claims National Enquirer

Truth rating: 0

2:29 pm, February 20th, 2013

(National Enquirer)

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones split over the summer, claims the National Enquirer.

In a sensational cover story, the supermarket tabloid alleges the Hollywood power couple had a “hush-hush trial separation” after their 12-year marriage “buckled under the pressure of dealing with Michael’s cancer battle, his druggie son Cameron’s incarceration and Catherine’s struggle with bipolar II disorder.”

“Sources” tell the Enquirer that Douglas “moved out” of their home when their problems peaked.

According to the mag’s “insider,” the actor “stayed in a nearby rental property owned by a multimillionaire pal.”

The Enquirer tries to support its bogus allegation by claiming that Zeta-Jones skipped a special screening of father-in-law Kirk DouglasSpartacus in August and the family dinner that followed.

“I think [Michael] felt completely betrayed that Catherine didn’t show up,’” explains a source for the tabloid. “But maybe she was upset with him and wanted to make a point by snubbing him on this special family evening.”

Uh-huh.

And why is the Enquirer only reporting on the “trial separation” now, months after Douglas allegedly moved out?

Because it’s not true.

There was no “trial separation” — just some misinformed sources and an easily duped magazine with a history of printing fabrications about Douglas, including the October 2010 prediction that he had three months to live.

How’d that report turn out, by the way?

As for the lame claim that he and Zeta-Jones split over the summer, a rep calls the Enquirer cover story “not true.”
