Ben Affleck is the new Batman.

The actor has been cast as the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, Warner Bros. announced on Thursday night.

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who is reprising his role as Superman.

In a statement, director Zack Snyder says, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

It will be the first time Batman and Superman have teamed up on the big screen.

The movie, which is still untitled, is slated to open in theaters on July 17, 2015.

Coincidentally, Affleck played one of Superman’s most famous portrayers, George Reeves, in the 2006 movie Hollywoodland.

And Affleck also portrayed the superhero Daredevil in the 2003 movie with wife future wife Jennifer Garner.

Jennifer Garner Wants Ben Affleck To Be “Mr. Mom” While She Gets Career Back?

Truth rating: 0

Jennifer Garner wants husband Ben Affleck to trade the director’s chair for the high chair,” begins a piece from Star, which claims the actress “is eager to get back to work while Ben tends to the couple’s three children.”

A purported “insider” tells the mag, “Jennifer has played homemaker while Ben has been the toast of the town,” alleging that Garner had “mixed feelings” about Affleck’s Oscar win for Argo.

“She is so proud of Ben, but she used to have a red-hot career, and she wants it back,” says the so-called “friend.”

Really?

Not at all.

In fact, Garner recently told Allure that being a mother is the most important thing to her in the world, and that whatever Affleck decides to do in his professional life, “I’m along for the ride.”

And it’s not as if the star has given up working to be a full-time mom.

Garner recently completed The Dallas Buyers Club, and has three additional films set for 2014.

In any case, Gossip Cop checked in with a family insider, who tells us the mag’s story is simply “not accurate.”

Jennifer Garner explains why she and Ben Affleck are rarely seen together at public events in the September issue of Allure.

The actress shares, “Sometimes it’s a pain because my heels are so high and it would be really nice to have his arm. And he’s such a great date! But it can be too much.”

“I think especially for women, they can really lose their identity and just become ‘wife of,’” Garner explains.

Garner also talked about her love of being a mom to three children, revealing, “If you’d said to me, ‘You could be a mom or you could be anything else in the world,’ I would have been a mom.”

The star also discusses Affleck potentially running for public office one day, saying, “Right now [Ben] feels like he can do more good for people politically from outside the system. Would I be surprised if one day he did go into politics? No. But not now.”

Garner adds that her husband would have her full support if he did choose to run, telling the mag, “I’m along for the ride.”

The mag hits newsstands on August 20.
