Alex Rodriguez Suspended for 211 Games In Biogenesis Drugs Scandal

Alex Rodriguez has been suspended by Major League Baseball for the rest of this year and through the end of the 2014 season – 211 games in total, starting on Thursday — for his role in a major doping scandal.
The suspension came after a months-long investigation into allegations the Yankees third baseman used performance-enhancing drugs through a now-closed Miami clinic called Biogenesis.
On Monday, 12 other MLB players were handed 50-game suspensions in connection with the Biogenesis case.
Rodriguez has maintained his innocence, and will be allowed to keep playing as he appeals the punishment.
He plans to play for the Yankees in Chicago on Monday.
This marks the second major doping scandal for the all-star athlete, who admitted in 2009 to using banned substances from 2001 to 2003, while he played for the Texas Rangers.
Rodriguez has spent most of the current baseball season on the disabled list, and now his future through the 2014 season is in jeopardy.
He is, however, expected to play with the Yankees in Chicago on Monday night.
