CBS Officially Sets ‘The Mentalist’ Final Season

The Mentalist Season 6 Finale - H 2014

CBS

‘The Mentalist’

It’s official: The Mentalist is ending after the seventh season.

CBS is using The Mentalist and Undercover Boss as a bridge between the fall finales and spring returns of Survivor and The Amazing Race, a strategy currently employed by ABC with many of its serialized dramas.

The final 13-episode run of The Mentalist — which executive producer Bruno Heller called “an encore” — is being slotted for Sunday, Nov. 30 at 9:30 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT. The Simon BakerRobin Tunney drama remains in the slot for five weeks through December before shifting to 8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Jan. 7 and wrapping with a two-hour series finale from 8 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 18.

Undercover Boss will take over the 8 p.m. Sunday time slot starting Dec. 14, before airing at 8:30 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT the following two weeks. It will then move to its regular 8 p.m. Friday time slot on Jan. 2.

The season finale of Survivor will be broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 8 to 10 p.m., followed by the live reunion show. The Amazing Race wraps up its current cycle on Friday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. New cycles of Survivor and The Amazing Race begin with 90-minute premieres on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., respectively.

“One of the goals this season was to keep expanding our lineup of year-round, original programming and have fewer repeat cycles,” said Kelly Kahl, senior executive vp CBS Primetime. “We’re fortunate to have two popular, proven ratings winners in The Mentalist and Undercover Boss to seamlessly join our schedule.”

‘Suits’: Gabriel Macht’s Father to Return for Season 4 Arc (Exclusive)

Suits Still - H 2014

Shane Mahood/USA Network

Stephen Macht in ‘Suits’ season four

It’ll be a family affair once again on Suits.

Gabriel Macht will be reunited with his real-life father, Stephen Macht, in the fourth season of USA Network’s legal drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Stephen will be reprising his role as Harvard Law professor Gerard, notorious for his high standards and rigid ways, in two of the final six episodes of the season when Suits returns in early 2015.

The elder Macht first appeared in the season-three episode “Yesterday’s Gone,” and his encounter with Gabriel’s hotshot Manhattan lawyer Harvey Specter was icy at best. (Watch their contentious scene from the March episode here.)

“Reprising my role as Professor Gerard on Suits is an opportunity of a lifetime for a father. As a former drama professor who once coached 15-year-old Gabriel in the role of Cyrano de Bergerac, I now experience the reality of a role reversal. Gabriel coaches me as Professor Gerard; the student has become the teacher,” Stephen tells THR in a statement. “That is reflective of our on-screen and off-screen journeys. Because we are real-life father and son, we share an edgy, raw emotional honesty that drives our scenes. And that’s just plain fun!”

The Machts aren’t the only family members to mix the personal with the professional. Gabriel’s real-life wife, Jacinda Barrett, recurred from 2012 to 2013 as Zoe, Harvey’s romantic interest, and co-star Patrick J. Adams will be reuniting with his real-life fiancee, Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario, when she guest-stars.

Stephen is repped by GVA and Shelter Entertainment.
