American Idol‘s season nine winner Lee DeWyze has scored a new record deal with Vanguard Records.

“I’ve never felt better than being in a place I am right now and we plan on releasing an album, a single very early this year,” says the singer, who delivered the news via video. “I feel blessed and honored to be on a label like Vanguard.”

Known for signing major folk and blues artists in the ’60s, Vanguard Records features artists like Matt Nathanson, Robert Francis and the Indigo Girls. According to DeWyze, “They’re the right fit and the right place for me to be.”

The singer’s debut full-length, 2010’s Live It Up, released by RCA Records, has sold some 150,000 units. As previously reported by THR, the Sony-owned label did not pick up the Idol victor’s option for a second album.
