Jonah Hill Apologizes on ‘The Tonight Show’ for Making Gay Slur (Video)

The Tonight Show took on a serious topic on Tuesday, when Jonah Hill‘s voice shook as he apologized for making a gay slur to a paparazzo: “If someone says something that hurt you or angers you, use me as an example of what not to do.

“Don’t respond with hatred or anger, because you are just adding more ugliness to the world,” he said, while Jimmy Fallon listened intently.

On ABC, Jimmy Kimmel caught up with Tom Cruise, who has just completed a whirlwind three premieres in 24 hours to promote Edge of Tomorrow. “London, Paris and then New York — and you flew on Southwest by coach,” joked Kimmel.

“By New York, I was not responsible for what I said at that last premiere,” said a jet-lagged Cruise, adding: “It was in the theme of the movie,” referring to doing something over and over again like in the sci-fi twist on Groundhog Day.

Over on CBS, David Letterman welcomed Last Week Tonight host and recent The Hollywood Reporter cover star, John Oliver. The bashful Brit continued to marvel at how many billboards are plastered around the U.S. with his face on them.

“I don’t think anyone needs to see that. There was one on a phone box near where I live…My first response [to HBO] was ‘When is this all coming down?'” He went on to explain that the slower pace of the series is actually more stress-inducing than his Comedy Central job. “On a daily show, you don’t have time to wallow in failure… but on a weekly you have a Jacuzzi of regret.”

Martin Short also appeared on the Late Show, where he told Letterman why he was invited to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s wedding.

Seth Meyers‘ guest Dennis Miller recalled his favorite Saturday Night Live moments, and told his fellow alum.”I have only been on this floor once since I left SNL.

“I find myself in my third decade of following “Chopping Broccoli” and getting my ass kicked,” he said of touring with his former co-stars.

Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up a ‘Box of Lies’ With Jimmy Fallon (Video)

Jennifer Lawrence Jimmy Fallon -- H 2014

NBC

Jennifer Lawrence plays “Box of Lies” with Jimmy Fallon.

Jennifer Lawrence has many secret talents, but lying isn’t one of them.

The American Hustle star was a very lively guest on The Tonight Show on Thursday, where Jimmy Fallon challenged her to a game of “Box of Lies.”

The fun twosome had to pick special boxes and then either tell the truth or fib about its contents (such as a sticky Rubik’s Cube in a bowl of jell-o) to their competitor.

The Oscar winner — who will next appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past — also busted Fallon for leaving her in the lurch on the dance floor in front of Jennifer Lopez at a recent charity event.

“You came up with this idea. We’ll do a spin and then she will dance with us,” Lawrence revealed, admitting that she was more than a few jell-o shots down. “I do it then I look at him and he’s gone and she’s just looking at me. You made me look like a freak in front of J-Lo.”

Fallon also announced that after a faux feud on Twitter, Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith‘s “Drum Off” will take place next Thursday on the show.

Over on CBS, David Letterman hosted old friend Adam Sandler, who had an attractive job suggested for when the Late Show host retires.

“I am doing a movie in a year in Hawaii, it would be an honor if you would come… and watch my kids,” he asked.

The 47-year-old Blended star then spilled his secret to looking young. “I won’t do the surgery. I can’t do it, my secret is on my close-ups, I have my assistant come up behind me and [pulls his skin really tightly to distort his face]. ‘Call action!’ That’s my new thing.”

On ABC, Shailene Woodley told Jimmy Kimmel she can fit all of her possessions in a single suitcase: “It’s so refreshing to go ‘I only have one pair of jeans to wash.'” She also said she cried watching her upcoming film The Fault in Our Stars, not over her performance but because of the work of her costar Ansel Elgort.

Next up on NBC, Seth Meyers was once again reunited with a Saturday Night Live pal when Maya Rudolph came on to chat about her new variety show. “It is like what we grew up with — feather boas and guests stopping… me and my brother loved Donny and Marie,” she revealed of her inspiration for The Maya Rudolph Show, which premieres on Monday on NBC.

One guest she would love to have is Prince, and she explained that she was once in cover band called — what else? — Princess, before dishing on her embarrassing first meeting with the Purple One.
