NBC Cancels ‘Camp’ After One Season

NBC will not be returning to summer Camp.

The network has opted to cancel its low-cost international co-production after one season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Co-star Nikolai Nikolaeff broke the news Tuesday via Twitter. "So… It was a great s ummer and I loved every minute of it. Sorry to all the @NBCCamp fans out there but no go on #CampSeason2," he wrote.

STORY: 3 Ways Broadcast Networks Will Try to Save Summer (Analysis)

From Deception's Liz Heldens and Peter Elkoff, the Rachel Griffiths-starrer revolved around a summer camp for both adults and their kids. It was in the vein of Meatballs and Dazed and Confused and revolved around the staff and attendees at Little Otter Family Camp. NBC picked up the dramedy straight to series with a 13-episode order in January.

Although stronger than NBC's other scripted summer effort, Siberia, Camp did little in the way of ratings. With time-shifting, the series averaged just a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 -- opening to reasonable 1.5 rating in the key demo and 5 million viewers and steadily dipping throughout its 13-week run.

The low-cost scripted drama -- it was a co-production from Matchbox Pictures and BermanBraun -- was one of three ways the broadcast networks attempted to keep the lights on during the typically low-rated summer months.

Other summer scripted original dramas -- including ABC's inexpensive remake of British series Mistresses and CBS' pricey Under the Dome -- have already earned second-season renewals.
