Jason Winer has set up his third project so far this development season.
The Modern Family director has set up female-driven mob drama Beverly Kills at ABC with a script plus penalty commitment, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Beverly Kills is based on Winer's original idea and revolves around a wife and mom who retires from her job as a highly skilled hit-woman for the mob and settles into domesticity. Try as she might to live the life of a normal housewife, she soon spots crime, corruption and evil-doing beneath the quiet, green surface of Beverly Hills, and decides to clean it up and keep her family safe in the only way she knows how.
Don Todd (Hart of Dixie, Samantha Who, Ugly Betty) will pen the script and executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television drama. Winer, via his Small Dog Picture Co., will serve as a nonwriting EP alongside the banner's Renate Radford.
The project reunites Winer with Todd; the duo previously worked together on a 2009 episode of Samantha Who.
For 20th TV-based Winer, Beverly Kills marks his third sale this development season. After launching Small Dog in October 2012, Winer has teamed with Damon Wayans Jr. for Man/Child, a comedy about two single dads set up at Fox as well as with Pitch Perfect writer Kay Cannon for CBS sibling comedy The Runt.
Winer (1600 Penn, The Crazy Ones) is repped by ICM Partners, Mosaic and Morris Yorn; Todd is with Rothman Brecher.
