NBC is readying a new conspiracy drama.
The network is teaming with The Bourne Ultimatum writer Scott Z. Burns to develop a drama based on the 2012 feature Conspiracy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The drama tells the story of a conspiracy theorist who vanishes after a man is killed at an Occupy Wall Street protest, leaving behind his sister and an FBI agent to investigate.
The feature film, written and directed by Christopher MacBride, was a feature about a documentary centered on conspiracy theories that takes a horrible turn when the filmmakers uncover a dangerous secret society.
Resolute Films' MacBride and Lee Kim, who produced the feature, are on board to executive produce the adaptation. Working Title Films' Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin are attached as nonwriting EPs; Daniel Pipski will co-executive produce. Kyle Franke and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films acquired rights to the film and shopped the property. The duo will also serve as EPs. Working Title and XYZ Films are repped by UTA.
Conspiracy reunites Burns with Working Title after more than a decade. They previously developed Burns' first feature film writing job PU-239, which he ultimately directed at HBO. Burns' credits also include Contagion, Side Effects andThe Informant, in addition to producing Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. He's repped by UTA, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Tyerman.
For NBC, the project comes after the network tried its hand last season with conspiracy drama Zero Hour. The Anthony Edwards (ER) starrer was yanked from the schedule after three low-rated episodes.
