‘American Horror Story’ Taps Danny Huston to Join ‘Coven’

FX's American Horror Story continues to add star power to Coven.

Showrunner Ryan Murphy took to his Twitter page Sunday to announce that Magic City alum Danny Huston has joined the ranks of the third season of the anthology series.

Coven stars Jessica Lange as a witch named Fiona; Kathy Bates plays historical personage Madame LaLurie, a Louisiana-born socialite and serial killer who kept slaves bound in her home; and Angela Bassett portrays voodoo expert/cult leader Marie Laveau. Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. More than 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials, and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind, and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves.

Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

AHS co-creator Murphy noted that Huston will play the boyfriend to Lange's Fiona and described him as both "sexy" and "dangerous."

For Huston, the AHS role comes a month after Starz canceled period drama Magic City after two low-rated seasons. Repped by ICM Partners, Huston's credits also include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Children of Men and 21 Grams.

Huston joins a female-heavy cast that also includes Sarah Paulson, Denis O'Hare, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Patti LuPone, Emma Roberts and Gabourey Sidibe. Coven premieres Oct. 9 on FX.
