‘Futurama’ Series Finale Gets Pair of Chris Hardwick-Hosted Companion Shows

Chris Hardwick is expanding his relationship with Comedy Central.

The Nerdist personality has been tapped to host Futurama Live, pre- and post-show online companion talkers timed to the series finale of the network's Futurama.

STORY: 'Futurama' Canceled for Third Time

Hardwick, who already hosts AMC's The Talking Dead and Talking Bad companions to The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, will sit down with series creator Matt Groening and EP David X. Cohen on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. PST/9:30 p.m. EST. Cast members set to join Groening and Cohen for the first of two half-hours include Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Phil LaMarr and Lauren Tom.

The second episode will begin immediately after the series finale and feature co-EP Patric M. Verrone and supervising director Peter Avanzino joining the group to break down the episode. Producers, writers and cast will discuss behind-the-scenes details and answer fan questions submitted via Twitter at @ComedyCentral.

Futurama Live will stream on Comedy Central's Futurama page as well as Nerdist's YouTube Channel.

Comedy Central canceled Futurama in April, marking the third time the series has gotten the ax in its seven-season run.

The online companion episodes come as post-episode talk shows continue to grow in popularity. In addition to AMC's pair of companions, FX also has ordered three episodes of Anarchy Afterword -- an online companion to Kurt Sutter's Sons of Anarchy.

The news comes as Hardwick is poised to host a late-night talk show for Comedy Central. The half-hour effort will bow in the fall as a four-night-a-week entry behind the network's one-two ratings punch of The Daily Show and Colbert Report.
