Good Morning America celebrated 52 straight weeks as the No. 1 morning show, a feat the ABC effort hasn't seen in more than 21 years.
GMA marked its one-year run at the top — which began the week of Aug. 13, 2012 — by averaging 5.08 million total viewers and 1.9 million viewers among the core adults 25-54 demo for the week of Aug. 12, dominating NBC's Today (4.27 million, 1.7 million in 25-54).
Compared to the same week last year, GMA more than tripled its lead over Today in total viewers.
“Because of your incredible work, Good Morning America has been No. 1 in total viewers for one entire year,” Tom Cibrowski, GMA senior executive producer, told the staff Thursday morning. “It is an amazing accomplishment and a fantastic ride. We are also extremely grateful to the viewers who tune in every morning, and now it’s up to us to keep going. We are only just beginning.”
CBS' This Morning was a distant third for the week of Aug. 12, averaging 2.68 million total viewers and 863,000 in adults 25-54.
