British authorities are once again looking into the death of Princess Diana, who died with her companion Dodi Fayed in a 1997 car crash in Paris.
On Saturday, Scotland Yard revealed that it is examining the “relevance and credibility” of new information it has received pertaining to the deaths.
Police declined to offer further details except to say that personnel from the specialist crime and operations unit would be assessing the new information.
They stressed that the actions did not constitute an official re-opening of the case.
Diana and Fayed died on August 31, 1997, when their vehicle crashed in a tunnel while trying to evade photographers in Paris.
In 2008, a jury ruled that Diana and Fayed were “unlawfully” killed due to their driver Henri Paul’s drinking and reckless speed, along with reckless driving by the paparazzi who pursued them.
Royal spokespeople indicated that Diana’s ex-husband Prince Charles and sons Prince William and Prince Harry would not be commenting on Saturday’s development.
