What becomes of the brokenhearted? Fans of The Bachelorette will find out during the intense, emotional conclusion of the show's two-part finale on Monday, Aug. 5. Last week, frontrunner Brooks Forester left leading lady Desiree Hartsock in tears when he told her he wasn't in love with her and bowed out of the competition -- and this week, Des has to deal with the aftermath of his confession.
"This is a hard one to take," she says tearfully in a new preview clip from the Aug. 5 episode. "It throws everything off, having Brooks gone."
"It broke my heart to have him say those things to me," she adds. "And now I don't know where to start."
Indeed, Des said in part one of the finale that she couldn't imagine continuing her quest for love without Brooks still in the running. "It breaks my heart knowing that I have two amazing, unreal guys who do love me," she sobbed, referring to the other remaining suitors, Chris Siegfried and Drew Kenney. "I just can't love them as much...And that's not what they deserve. Honestly, for me, it's over."

But is it? Though Brooks told Chris Harrison last week that he was sure Des wasn't the love of his life, he seemed less sure after talking to her about it. And a source told Us Weekly he regretted breaking up with her "almost immediately."

"I'm surprised. I'm surprised at the love she has for me," Brooks said, fighting back tears. "I didn't want to leave her. I wasn't expecting that. I didn't know what else to say, though. I just wanted to sit there."
"Worst day of my life!" he cried. "It was way worse than I thought it was going to be."
