Joy Behar’s Final Broadcast on ‘The View’ Set

ABC has set Joy Behar's final episode of The View.

Behar, one of the original co-hosts alongside Barbara Walters when the daytime talker debuted in 1997, will leave The View on Friday, Aug. 9. Behar's departure comes one month after co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck exited for Fox News Channel.

Through the Mario Cantone-hosted special, titled This Was Your Life on The View Joy Behar (airing 11 a.m.-12 p.m.), ABC's send-off to the 16-year veteran of The View looks back at Behar's most memorable and most talked about moments. Highlights include Behar's walk-off during Bill O'Reilly's appearance, being used as a human barbell by LL Cool J, interviewing Senator John McCain and quizzing President Barack Obama.

The episode will include pretaped messages from celebrities that will air throughout the telecast, ABC says in its release. Susie Essman, Regis Philbin, Meredith Vieira, Joan Rivers and Alan Alda will also be featured in the hour, with Tony Bennett performing.

Behar's exit leaves Walters the sole remaining original co-host of The View, which also includes Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd.

Following Hasselbeck's departure, Jenny McCarthy was announced as a new co-host on The View when the 17th season begins in the fall. Walters announced that she would be retiring in spring 2014.

The View is still among the top-rated daytime programs on TV, but the show has seen its audience slip in recent years; this season it has declined double-digits among total viewers and women in the 25-54 demographic, upon which the bulk of daytime programming is sold to advertisers.
