The House Ethics Committee is launching a formal investigation of Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, the committee announced Friday. The decision was made after the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent investigative body, referred evidence to the committee in June. The Associated Press reports that the probe is "focused in part on her short-lived presidential bid." The representative is cooperating with the investigation.
Politico reports that in addition to Bachmann, the committee is probing Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.), Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.), and Chief Republican Deputy Whip Peter Roskam of Illinois.
