Al Jazeera America continues to bulk up its correspondent ranks in advance of its Aug. 20 launch. Veteran broadcast journalist Sheila MacVicar joins the show’s nightly news program America Tonight, the network announced Monday. MacVicar will be based in AJA’s Washington, D.C. bureau. America Tonight is executive produced by former CNN producer Kim Bondy and will broadcast from the Newseum. MacVicar -- who has had a long career as a foreign correspondent working for the CBC, CNN, ABC News and CBS News -- joins previously announced correspondents Adam May, Lori Jane Gliha, Christof Putzel and Soledad O’Brien.
MacVicar spent many years at ABC News and in 2004 joined CBS News, based in the news division’s London bureau. She reported extensively from the Middle East for CNN in the years after Sept. 11, 2001.

“Sheila MacVicar is an exceptional, veteran journalist who throughout her career has reported unbiased, fact-based stories,” said Bondy in a statement. “Sheila will bring more than 30 years of reporting experience, especially her ability to engage viewers on the issues that will most affect their lives, to America Tonight’s viewers.”
