Play These Scruffy Dog Simulators

Ruff! Ruff!

Dogs and videogames: everybody loves them. They both bring meaning to millions of otherwise cheerless lives. So why in Air Bud's good name is there not a great Dog Simulator? I'm only half joking compadres! If Maxis could make Sim Ant a classic, why can't the great game studios in the world today make a game in which you play as a dog? Think about it: a dog videogame. Yep, that's right.

And don't give me Nintendogs or Fable 2. I'm not barking about a game in which you care for a dog. I mean a game in which you play as a dog. Yep, that's right. A dog.

Well, leave it to the good-natured scamps (like all the best dogs) behind Molyjam Deux to inspire a bunch of amateur game developers to make some games about dogs!

Basically, Molyjam Deux asked developers to create games really fast based on quotes from the legendary and legendarily vague developer Peter Molyneux. And a few of them had to do with DOGS!:

Part of the fun of dogs is they misbehave and can be enormously embarrassing to the owner.

If you love your dog, we're gonna mess with your mind, man. You're not going to be able to go to bed.

Here's what the participants created over the course of three days (they're rough, but playable):

The Dog Dates of Summer

The Dog Dates of Summer

"A series of mini games about the difficulty of going on a date while caring for a dog."

Loyal

Loyal

"In Loyal, you play as Duke, trying to make your owner's life as happy and perfect as you possibly can."
