Comic-Con Exclusive: Syfy Goes Big for Ron Moore’s ‘Helix’

Syfy is going big for its upcoming Ron Moore drama Helix.

The cable network, just four months after ordering the thriller about a disease outbreak to series, is giving the show the Defiance treatment and promoting it with a massive wrap-around on the Marriot Marquis & Marina Hotel adjacent to the Convention Center.

STORY: Comic-Con 2013: The Complete TV Lineup

The series hails from Battlestar Galactica's Moore and has yet to cast anyone for the 13-episode drama that was ordered straight to series in March. The show centers on a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak. There, they find themselves in a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation. Casting is currently under way for Helix.

Syfy will promote the series, due in 2014, with the tagline "The truth will spread." In addition to putting the Helix banner in real estate where Defiance was promoted last year, Syfy will also hold a panel for the show on Friday, July 19 from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in Room 6A. Exec producers Moore and Steven Maeda along with writer/co-EP Cameron Porsandeh will preview their vision for Helix, which hails from Sony Pictures Television.

The investment in Helix comes a year after Syfy heavily promoted its $100 million series Defiance, which was renewed for a second season in May.
