Nigella Lawson and Charlies Saatchi are divorcing.
Saatchi, who three weeks ago was pictured grabbing his wife’s neck in a series of shocking photos, told the Mail on Sunday, “I am sorry to announce that Nigella Lawson and I are getting divorced.”
The art collector said, “I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way.”
Saatchi called the split “heartbreaking,” but added that in the past year the couple had become “estranged” and “drifted apart.”
He again claimed the neck grabbing incident was “not violent.”
Saatchi went on to say, “I am sorry that we had a row. I am sorry that she was upset. I am even more sorry that this is the end of our marriage.”
Lawson and Saatchi have been married since 2003.
The celebrity chef has two children from her previous marriage to journalist John Diamond.
