It shows a pollution-filled dystopian future city — “unless automotive technology changes.”
The spot, called "Anachronism," is for the new Toyota Auris Hybrid.
It's via Italy, created by Saatchi & Saatchi Italy.
It's not a remarkably creative commercial — I've seen this future city idea many times in the auto category. (It is a nicely produced ad, though, and the future technology touches here are very creative).
What's remarkable is that Toyota is taking on the petroleum industry directly and visually with the ad.
Sure, the retro 1950s music and the 1920s cars make light of the point. But the point is still there — we are heading for a future choked with car pollution.
"No world will be truly advanced, until automotive technology changes."
Coming from the world's third largest automobile manufacturer, that is remarkable.
