Declan Hill's international best-selling book The Fix: Soccer and Organized Crime is headed for the small screen.
Feature film banner Ineffable Pictures will make its first foray into television and adapt the novel, shopping the crime drama to cable and international channels, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Fix is an in-depth look at soccer match fixing. Hill, an investigative journalist, examined the underworld in which billions of dollars are waged every year at the highest level of soccer, including the Champions League and FIFA World Cup tournaments. The book has been translated into 15 languages. Hill penned his Oxford thesis on the subject and is considered an expert on the field of international organized crime.
"Everyone knows that soccer is far and away the world's most popular sport. However, it wasn’t until I read Declan's book that I realized that the criminal aspect surrounding it might be even bigger," Ineffable CEO Raphael Kryszek said. "This will undoubtedly set the framework for a captivating piece of television."
A search is under way for a writer to adapt the book. Kryszek will executive produce the drama alongside Ineffable senior vp Jesse Israel, with Ross Putman overseeing for the company.
Ineffable currently is in preproduction on the Elijah Wood and Melissa Leo feature Late Bloomer, which begins filming this summer. The banner also has Tiger's Curse set up at Paramount with The Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec attached to write.
