Brad Pitt cancelled his trip to Brazil — where he was to promote World War Z on Monday — due to unrest in the country.

The South American nation has been rocked by huge demonstrations over a slew of of issues, including a transportation rate hike, alleged political corruption, and what’s perceived as excessive spending to host the upcoming 2014 World Cup soccer tournament.

In light of the protests, Pitt bailed on the red carpet and screening of the film in Rio, with Paramount Pictures noting in a statement that those involved with the film send their “respect and goodwill toward the people of Brazil at this time of national unrest.”
