‘Psych’ Adds Loretta Devine, Peggy Lipton for Season 8

Psych is ramping up its guest slate.

Loretta Devine, star of Lifetime's The Client List, and Peggy Lipton, best known for The Mod Squad, have joined the season eight cast of the long-running comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

In the fifth episode, Devine will play "foxy" Melba Birdson, a former back-up singer for 1960s sensation Myles Valour Jr. Lassie (Timothy Omundson) tracks her down in a desperate attempt to gain information on a cold case from 1967 and finds her still performing after all these years.

In the same hour, Lipton will portray Scarlet Jones, reliving her days as the main squeeze of notorious mob boss Rodney Caruso. As Lassie begins to dig around a cold case involving the late Archie Baxter, he turns to Scarlett for information on Archie's supper club, where Myles' songs were regular fixtures and the line between cops and criminals were blurred.

Devine, whose TV credits include Grey's Anatomy (she won an Emmy in 2011), Eli Stone, Boston Public and State of Georgia, is repped by Innovative Artists and Essential Talent. Lipton, who played Julie Barnes on Mod Squad, also starred in Twin Peaks. They join returning Psych players Cary Elwes and Kristy Swanson in the new season.

Psych, USA's longest-running original series, recently wrapped up season seven in May, with a musical episode slated to air later this year. Season eight will consist of eight episodes.
