Payback? John Mayer released a new song, "Paper Doll," on Tuesday, June 18, and rumors are circulating that the single is a stinging retort reply to ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's 2010 breakup hit, "Dear John."

Mayer, 35, enlisted viral sensation Johanna Rohrback to "prancercise" in his new lyric video for "Paper Doll." The first clue that the song could be about Mayer's brief 2009 fling with Swift, 23, are the lines, "Here's a dress of gold and blue/ Sure was fun being good to you." In Swift's "Dear John," she refers to herself "the girl in the dress."
In the chorus, Mayer also sings, "You're like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they're running from/ Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?" In addition to having released her single "22" earlier this year, Swift also sings in "Dear John," "I'll look back and regret how I ignored when they said run as fast as you can."

A third clue? The lyrics, "And if those angel wings don't fly/ Someone's gonna paint you another sky." In "Dear John," Swift sings, "You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain."

In a June 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, Mayer admitted that Swift's song "made me feel terrible . . . because I didn't deserve it."
"["Dear John" is] cheap songwriting," Mayer added. "It's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait til he gets a load of this!' That's bulls--t . . . It really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down."
"Paper Doll" is from Mayer's upcoming sixth studio album, Paradise Valley. Watch the lyric video above and tell Us: Do you think Mayer's new song is about Swift?
