Conan O'Brien may not have clocked much time as host of The Tonight Show, but his Turner ties will find the TBS host reminiscing about the classic late-night talk show in a new summer series.
Carson on TCM, premiering Monday, July 1, will showcase the more memorable interviews of Johnny Carson's three-decade tenure emceeing the NBC show. And O'Brien, who sat at Carson's old desk for a famously short tenure during the 2009–2010 season, will talk viewers through the old clips.
"With its connection between late-night television and classic films, Carson on TCM offers the perfect opportunity to bring TBS's popular late-night host to Turner Classic Movies," said TBS, TNT and TCM cmo and TCM gm Jeff Gregor. "Conan has long idolized Johnny Carson, and he understands what it's like to be on the other side of the desk. We're thrilled to have him coming to TCM to share his unique insight and perspective."
The series, a joint effort between Carson documentarian Peter Jones (Johnny Carson: King of Late Night, TCM's Stardust: The Bette Davis Story) and Carson Entertainment Group's Jeff Sotzing, kicks off with Carson's famous 1982 interview with 7-year-old Drew Barrymore.
Other interviews set to air in July include Kirk Douglas (1988), Mary Tyler Moore (1978), writer Neil Simon (1980), George Burns (1989), Doris Day (1976), Charlton Heston (1976), Tony Curtis (1973), Shelley Winters (1975), Ronald Reagan (1975), Robin Williams (1981), Mel Brooks (1975), Bette Davis (1983), Fred Astaire (1979), Henry Fonda (1980), Elizabeth Taylor (1992) and William Holden (1976).
