Jon Stewart vs. Donald Trump: Throwaway Joke Devolves Into Name-Calling

Over the years, there's been no love lost between Jon Stewart and Donald Trump.

The cold war escalated once again after a Daily Show segment aired where the host quipped about the real estate mogul in a throwaway joke on Wednesday night's episode.

"By the way, did you know Donald Trump's birth name is F**kface Von Clownstick?" Stewart said (see 12:12 in this clip), noting: "That's all over Twitter, I hope."

Of course, Trump didn't let Stewart have the last word. The mogul, a prolific tweeter, made the quip more personal on Friday by scoffing at the Daily Show host and adding a rant.

"What’s funny about the name “F**kface Von Clownstick” -- it was not coined by Jon Leibowitz-- he stole it from some moron on twitter. If Jon Stewart is so above it all & legit, why did he change his name from Jonathan Leibowitz?" Trump wrote. "He should be proud of his heritage! Jon Stewart @TheDailyShow is a total phony – he should cherish his past — not run from it."

The Daily Show's account responded: "Can't an overrated Jew have a complicated relationship with his dad without being accused of hiding his heritage? #FuckFaceVonClownstick"

The Comedy Central host will have only a few more weeks to make fun of Trump before his summer hiatus begins on June 10. Daily Show correspondent John Oliver will take over as anchor as Stewart takes the time off to direct a drama, titled Rosewater
