At the end of Wednesday night’s performance show, Ryan Seacrest cryptically teased viewers of a major twist that would be revealed on results night.
Seacrest continued to torture us with even more allusiveness at the beginning of American Idol’s Thursday night show.
“In just a bit, I will announce some shocking news that will affect the judges and turn the competition upside down,” he said.

Whatever did he mean? Did they have Jennifer Lopez waiting backstage ready to ambush the judges' table? It remained to be seen, but before that we watched adorable footage of the final four at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. I got teary-eyed when the little ones joined in on “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars.
I then got bleary-eyed at the sight of four images of Seacrest in one of the strangest segments in Idol history (I'm not even going to bother dissecting that; it was weird), but later enjoyed the comic relief of Stefano Langone’s massive eyewear and Lee DeWyze’s wonderful new song, “Silver Lining."
But still, I wondered: What is this shocking news? Was it that Drake was in the house surprising Candice Glover with his chiseled good looks and deep, seductive speaking voice? Is Drake next in line on the judging panel? No, that wasn’t it, either.
Was it the revelation that Jimmy Iovine believes Nicki Minaj is sweet on him? Or that he really, really hates “MacArthur’s Park” and “A Whiter Shade of Pale?’ Or perhaps was it shocking to learn that Glover can’t sleep without socks and loves Spongebob, Amber Holcomb has a pierced septum (TMI) and was on the drill team, Angie Miller hates pink, and Kree Harrison was bitten by a snake and -- oh yeah -- sucks? Those were her words, not mine.

Nope. However, it took a full hour until Seacrest scared Glover and Holcomb out of their wits announcing that the two judge favorites had the lowest amount of votes. The cagey host then announced what we all suspected in the first place: Because the judges hadn’t used their save all season, the Idol season was short a week, so therefore, nobody was going home. Color us surprised. Not.
So Holcomb and Glover can relax -- for now. But if their fans want them to stay in the competition, they need to consider that their votes will be factored into this week's total of 38 million votes already cast. By the look of things, victory seems to be within Miller’s grasp, at least according to Iovine, who said she “won the night, hands down."
