Rick Ross has reportedly been dumped by Reebok amid controversy over his track “U.O.E.N.O.,” which has been accused of glorifying date rape.
The song contains the lyrics, “Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.”
“Molly” is a slang term for MDMA, better known as ecstasy.
Under pressure from outraged advocacy groups, Reebok has now terminated its endorsement deal with the rapper, according to TMZ, which quotes the company as stating:
“Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so.”
“While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse.“
As Gossip Cop reported last week, Ross apologized for the lyrics being “interpreted as rape” as protests against him intensified.
It appears his contrition was not enough to save his Reebok deal.
